7 ‘‘AN ERGONOMIST SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF WORKSHOP ERGONOMICS’’ TRUE FALSE Using an external specialist can be coherent, but it should be kept in mind that the operators themselves are excellent experts. They know the constraints and needs of their work situation. The contribution of a posture expert is valuable for: Clearly formulating needs; Organising the search for solutions; Bringing out solutions while integrating procurement constraints (budgets, standards…). The ergonomics consultant also plays the role of an objective and independent third party between teams and management and provides the company with their experience. As the business, the workshop evolves: Processes, materials, workload, operator profile… Many ergonomics-related constraints change over time, with the risk of solutions becoming obsolete. The approach therefore does not stop once the furniture is installed. It must be part of a continuous improvement dynamic. Several good practices can thus be implemented: Train staff in adjusting seats; Upskill collaborators to become ergonomics experts; Organise regular team meetings on workshop ergonomics.
